This family-friendly hot dog cafe keeps tradition alive—and well fed. Gus’s Hot Dog King has a simple menu—barbecue; milkshakes; and tasty, low-priced hot dogs, hamburgers and fries—often topped with chili or cheese. Customers can belly up to the counter on stools or seat themselves at the tables, throughout the restaurant.

When the Jefferson Avenue eatery’s founder, Gus Garofalis, died in 1994, his wife, Stavroula, was thrust into his world of constant work. Gus Garofalis, a native of Greece, started the business in 1972. After Gus passed away, in 1994, Stavroula and George ran the business. Gus and Stavroula had two sons, Bobby and George. George, a graduate of George Mason University, joined the family business that he grew up around, in 2003. Bobby graduated from University of Virginia became a pediatric dentist and practices in Hampton, Newport News and Williamsburg.
Today, now there is just one.The Williamsburg location (oppend on December 11, 2006) closed early 2014. The Jefferson Avenue - the only remaining Gus's - is run by Stavroula and her son, George. So this family-friendly restaurant is a family restaurant, truly, passed from one generation to the next. Some would say that Queen Stavroula is passing the family business onto Prince George!

Throughout the years, people from all over Hampton Roads, have traveled miles to have an All-The-Way hot dog, mouth-watering chili-cheese fries, and the southern style barbeque.
