Is your social media working? How to tell

Social media marketing is a very effective form of marketing that is almost --- word-of-mouth

Wendy Craighill - Social Media Simplifier SMSimplifier

Most people use social all day long, this is an opportunity for you to be at top of mind. How do you know when your effort is working? Start here:

  • Are your followers responding to your social media shares with comments? How many comments do you get on average for each post? Which post has the most comments ever? What happens if you go off topic? What happens when you stay on topic? What happens the third time you share something with your audience?

  • Do people like your posts and like your page? Overall page growth and activity is a good way to know whether you’re connecting with the right people.

  • Does anyone share your posts? When posts are shared at a high rate, it’s a good indicator that you’re connecting with your audience. Make sure you ask people to share.

  • Drill down the analytics to find out where the new people came from, that will make your efforts much more targeted. Repeat what works and stop doing what’s not working.

  • Your "reach" (meaning how many people see the post) is an important indicator of the effectiveness of your post. For example, if it reaches 1000 people but no one responds, likes, or comments, the content might not be the right content for your audience. Or, do as Social Media Simplifier does and only boost WHEN you see engagement.

  • Do people click through to your landing page? If not, you're not hitting the mark with your audience (yet).

  • Do others "mention" your page? Who is talking about you, what are they saying, and where are they saying it? You can really see the "health" of your business in your mentions. (pssst - set up a Google Alert to let you know if someone says something about your niche, industry, or even your name)
