Social Media Mistakes you might be making

Choose one network when you are starting out -- simply to be SIMPLE and learn what you can. Social media can be a lot of work and you might as well run your business rather than spending all your hours learning how to Social Media!

But, using social media correctly can be an important path to business success.

  • Don't mix your personal and business pages up on Facebook - keep them separate (you can introduce your family and your interest so your fans know who they are buying from, but your business page isn't your lifestyle page.

  • Never argue with a review or criticism. It always, ALWAYS ends badly - for you. Period. It WILL happen. You'll get a comment that hurts your feeling or a review that is an outright lie.... you gain NEW customers in the way that you handle it - if you do it with grace and positivity.

  • Make sure to complete your "bio" or "About Us" - this is your key words! Don't leave it out - Google doesn't like it and neither will the search engines.

  • Don't post too often and don't be slack - both will hurt you by having folks unfollow you or forget about you.

  • Please LIKE your comments - and even engage a bit by asking a question of a commenter.

  • Make sure that your posts target your PERFECT customer and who you think buys from you -- if you don't know, pay to boost or check your insights.

  • PLEASE pay attention to your comments -- this is the GOLD of social media. If someone keeps getting a bady review -- talk to them (or fire them). If a food item is raved about - do more of that dish - photos, specials, etc. Consider how you can use that information to improve your products and services. That information is like having a crystal ball if you pay attention.

  • Make sure you log in, daily, to monitor. Set up an alert of Google to send you an email anytime your company, product or niche is mentioned. This will enable you to ensure that you don’t miss anything important.

  • FINALLY -- my favorite -- the biggest mistake you can make is to not use social media, at all. Choose one - you don’t have to be on every single network. Or pick a couple that you know your particular audience will use.
