Easy Peasy Branding

So….you are just starting out – and you want to know only what you HAVE to do to open the perfect business. Social Media? Which sites ? ALL of them? A website? How much should it cost? Do you need to hire an expensive firm? Should you do it, yourself?

How consistent should your “branding” be, when starting out? Do you need a logo? How much should it cost? Can you change it? OH YEAH – and you have no money for this marketing thing – you used it all just opening the doors.

SMSIMPLIFIER in Williamsburg

Let’s start here – be consistent -- FROM THE START.

  • You want to be recognizable – from the tag line, to the colors, to the face of the business (typically that is YOU – the owner who is reading my blog!)

  • Pick a color (or up to 4 colors) that makes you happy or have SOMETHING to do with the trade/business you are in. Use the consistently. When you get a business card, use those same colors. When you design your website – you got it – use those colors.

  • Develop something called an elevator pitch. It means that you have 10-30 seconds to explain what you do. It COULD be a name (A/C and Repair), but it might be more. It might be your TAG LINE – we help all the people in Williamsburg keep cool all summer and warm all winter – we work 365 days a year – maintenance AND emergency service. We get calls 24 hours a day. Simple (and what you do that is DIFFERENT – we call that your differentiator) and how you HELP (meet a need, not just what you sell).

  • Logo? Not so important – what IS important is the ‘theme’ of colors or ideas and what sets you apart. Then, start talking about that.
