Surefire ways to get your small business to grow

Do you know someone that has started a business and is flailing, failing and their world is crumbling around them? I think we all know that person. I am really hoping it isn't you. If it is, all is not lost. I have some suggestions

  • Become a storyteller -- Paint a picture of your day, your family and your product. Tell the story of your staff and how your business got here. BRAND yourself with the story you weave. Think about it and have a great story to tell.

  • Hire a mentor -- here is a FREE mentor service: SCORE - this organization uses experienced business owners that mentor startups. All counseling is free and confidential. I recommend Williamsburg SCORE to all of my clients that need help with a business plan or need direction. They are such a valuable resource. They sit down with you and will nod their head and shake it when something sounds like it won't work. They aren't going to say "Atta Girl," like your family might, to something that doesn't make sense.

  • Trust your teenager to look over blogs and graphics -- The next generation is very honest, they have been working with computers since they were toddlers and they are your prospects - help relate to them through the eyes of someone closer to thier age.

  • Finish anything that you start -- My grandma used to say - I finished that - now I have something to shake a stick at. That sticks with me, long after she is just a faded photograph and memories.

  • Don't be strategic -- Sometimes your business should be ALLOWED to take you where it wants to go. Don't force everything. That is a very hard lesson to learn for an overthinker and control freaks. Aren't all entrepreneurs control freaks. Let go, sometimes.

  • Find your support system -- That might mean a babysitter for appointments, someone to bounce off ideas of (see Hire a Mentor), raving fans to give you reviews (post your page on your wall and ask for reviews - don't be scared!), and allow yourself to take assistance from someone that is an expert - don't think you HAVE to do it all because you are a StartUp. You need help - accept it from the experts - especially when it is offered free.

If you are in need of a support system or you need someone to inspire you and help you and coach you - don't hesitate in calling Social Media Simplifier: 757-328-8884 or reaching out to SCORE: 757-229-6651
