I have been marketing a LOOOOOONG time and to have a small business that is successful, you need to market. In order to market, and be successful, you’ll need branding, a social presence, testimonials or reviews and a coach.
Branding means your differentiator. It means who you serve and understanding who your ideal client might be. This story (branding) will be the story that your customer gets to know. Your marketing efforts should support that brand and show it, clearly.
You need an elevator pitch from this brand! What is an elevator pitch? This is the 30 seconds that you speak about your business to someone who asks what you do, what you sell or who you serve. It needs to be in layman's terms and it needs to show how you and your business fulfil a real need, even telling a client's story as part of the pitch.
You need a social media presence. It doesn't matter which networks you use - you need a network! This network will show you as a subject-matter expert, uses your key words and gathers testimonials and reviews.
Finally, you need a coach or a mentor - someone more successful than you - not a peer. Someone who has tried failed and then succeeded, wildly. Find that person to help you past your failures and call you out on your missteps, gently steering toward success.
If you need help with Social Media Marketing (or at least getting set up), let's talk. I can even coach you or present to your company how to do it, internally.
If you need a coach, check out SCORE. They provide free mentoring and have seminars all year long, specific to small, local businesses.
Good luck, in 2016!
