Oh, the stress I see on my friend's faces, in August! The end of the summer is a stressful time of year. We are all trying to eek out the last of summer (vacations, amusement park visits, beach days, the Bucket List ideas) and we are trying to get our ducks in a row before school starts. Prioritize is the word of the day.
Memories: Your children will remember some big moments this summer but they are likely NOT the moments you want them to remember. The memory will be of catching fireflies, finding a cicada shell or a campfire sing-a-long. They'll remember time with the family, pajama days, being tickled by daddy and relaxed days with no alarm. So, take some pressure off yourself to give them BIG memories.
Clothes: You do have to make sure that everyone has pants long enough to cover their socks, shoes that fit over those socks and a new notebook and a way to carry the new notebook and pens (make sure that the backpack is age appropriate).
Appointments: Make sure that your children's medical records are up-to-date. This includes the 6-month routine exam at the dentist. I always recommend pediatric doctors, because of an upsetting personal experience. Doctors that aren't trained specifically for pediatrics don't always diagnose correctly. My 2-year old had 6 sets of X-rays done on a Nursemaid's Elbow because they couldn't see anything wrong with his arm. He spent two miserable days in a cast, until the pediatric doctor's office opened on Monday morning and his arm was fixed in less than 10 seconds - lesson learned. Trust children's health care to the Pediatric Specialists. If you are looking for a dentist, Social Media Simplifier recommends Hampton Roads Pediatric Dentistry. They have offices in Williamsburg, Hampton, Newport News and Chesapeake. All offices are taking new patients and the numbers are below:
