Lackey Free Clinic Free Cone Day, at Ben & Jerry's Yorktown, April 14, 12-8pm

You don’t have to rule the world to change it, because it all starts with your LOCAL community. I believe that the best change we can make is right up the road. Free Cone Day, hosted by Ben & Jerry's / Green Mountain Coffee Cafe' is giving back to the Lackey Free Clinic, our health clinic - we will be celebrating the people in our communities who do good every day.

Who will be there?

Lackey Free doctors, local-business owners, and even the local sheriff's and police department will be helping Ben & Jerry's staff to scoop. The Fun Bus of Hampton Roads will be there to entertain the children from 12-2pm. And THOUSANDS of people show up for a free cone. Free Cone Day, at Ben & Jerry's / Green Mountain Coffee Cafe' brings everyone out of the woodwork - even if it rains.

When?

This year's Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day takes place on 14th of April from 12pm-8pm. Even though the ice cream is free, the Lackey Free Clinic is there to scoop and collect donations. All registers are CLOSED. Even if a customer chooses to upgrade to a milkshake, smoothie, sundae, or waffle cone, that money is given to the clinic, as well.

Time?

It goes from 12pm-8pm. And there isn't a "good" time to go as you'll always wait in line, BUT the ice cream is free and they are scooping ice cream for a GREAT cause. AND if you get there early, the kiddos can play aboard the Fun Bus. It will be entertaining and yummy.

Who Benefits from the donations?

The Lackey Free Clinic in Yorktown is again the recipient, because they do so much good for our local community. This is the 9th consecutive Free Cone Day event where all of the proceeds go directly towards our local, free clinic.

Raffle prizes and entertainment?

The Fun Bus of Hampton Roads will be entertaining the children with the Fitness Bus, from 12-2pm. And there will be raffle prizes giving away by area merchants, like a FREE House Cleaning by Squeaky Clean or a prize donated by these area merchants: Viccellio Goldsmith, River Fruit Tropical Wines, Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf, Lifestone, LLC, Auntie M's American Cottage, Yorktown Bookshop, Squeaky Clean, Murawski Photography, The Comedy Club of Williamsburg, BlueGreenAqua, and RR Portraits.

What is being donated?

All prizes were donated and will be raffled off for money to benefit the Lackey Free Clinic. The entertainment (clowns, Fun Bus) is being donated to the cause. Ben & Jerry's is donating staff, ice cream, cups, cones, napkins, spoons - the entire shop, is donated to the Lackey Free Clinic for 8 hours, in the hopes of raising as much money as possible to support The Lackey Free Clinic and their mission.

Where does the money do?

For every dollar given to the clinic, Lackey Free Clinic of Yorktown is able to render five dollar's worth of medical care to local citizens who cannot afford health insurance. The all-volunteer staff is committed to the health of our community and has been providing services for free, for over 16 years. They provide services to over 5,000 area residents, annually! Thank you, Lackey Free Clinic for all that you do for our Yorktown. We are blessed to have you!

What are some Lackey Free Clinic statistics? The number of uninsured Virginians is growing at an alarming pace, exacerbated by the current state of the economy. Furthermore, premiums have become increasingly unaffordable, averaging $2,880 per year for an individual in Virginia. In 2012, 13.1% of Virginians reported not seeing a doctor in the past 12 months when necessary, mainly due to the cost. In 2013, The Lackey Free Clinic provided $6,891,279 worth of healthcare services. This vital community service captures those needs that would otherwise fall on local emergency rooms and hospitals. The clinic provided 12,233 patient visits, and filled 39,607 prescriptions valued at $4,081,699. The clinic had 431 volunteers who contributed total of 19,233 hours to the clinic.
