I have hired house cleaners, before. And it is nice to have someone come in and help. Cleaning alongside of me feels less overwhelming. It goes faster and it feels like I / we accomplished something. But, that is not the case with new business, out of Gloucester, Squeaky Clean Virginia.
This Was a Different Kind of House Cleaning Service
First, they came as a team, with a notebook and a smile. They asked what to avoid, what was broken or loose and what areas were concerning me. I told them that I was embarrassed about the mess (they told me that they hear that EVERY time they clean - what IS it about us being embarrassed about "living" in our homes????) They very politely told me that they would neaten and straighten as they cleaned and me doing it alongside of them would slow them down. I tried for a while to stay out of their way, but eventually I retreated to my home office and went to work. I poked my head out the door a few times, once to offer coffee (they refused) and the second time to find out what product they were using. It smelled so CLEAN - not bleachy, not perfumy - just clean! The product: Greased Lightning.
As I looked out my office door, I discovered a very speedy transformation. They were literally touching every surface of my house - they cleaned every surface. Sure, I would expect them to clean the toilet and the sinks and the floors...but this team cleaned my door jams, my floor boards...they even cleaned my Dog Door, for heaven sake! All my built ins were wiped down, they cleaned my toaster oven and my microwave, and even all my dining-room chairs. They stacked all my children's books (and we have 100's of children's book - a weakness of mine!) and even lined up all the stuffed animals in a cute little row. They arranged my ridiculous array of bottles and creams on my master-bathroom vanity so that it actually looked decorated. Then, they vacuumed and mopped and left with a see-you-in-two-weeks wave goodbye.
I decided that I had to write a blog about this. People have been telling me to ask for house-cleaning help for a long time. I homeschool. I own my own business. I have two VERY buys and messy toddler boys. And... a dog that sheds to high heaven. Add to have a workaholic husband who helps very little and you’re left with an overwhelmed never-get-out-from-underneath the dirt and clutter lady. Today, that all changed. Today, I signed a contract to have Squeaky Clean Virginia come back every two weeks.
Why sign a contract and say that I will spend that kind of money to clean when I could "just do it myself?" Because I don't do it, myself. Because it overwhelms me. Because I want to do other things more.
I signed that contract and wrote this testimonial, for three important reasons:
1. because they cleaned my house - FAST. (less than 2 1/2 hours).
2. And it feels ... clean. It looks different.
3. But, more than that...my house feels different. I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. The heaviness of clutter and chaos. They weight of dog hair and too many toys to pick up, again. That feeling of "what is the use?" All that....GONE.
